What is an accident?

An accident is a sudden event that results in damage to a person or thing.

What are the types of accidents?

Types of accidents are descriptions of where the accident happened. For example, accidents at work, household accidents and sports accidents can be distinguished. An occupational accident refers to all accidents that occur during an insured activity. However, an accidental injury is not yet an occupational accident.

However, it must be noted here that an occupational accident is defined more broadly and does not only describe traditionally understood work. In principle, an accident at work also occurs in the case of an accident during voluntary work, caring for a relative or attending school. In principle, commuting accidents also fall under this category, although attention is paid here to whether detours or the like occur.

There is also property damage. In the case of property damage, a “thing”, for example a motor vehicle, is damaged.

When is an accident actually an accident?

An accident is often called an accident when a stronger force acts on a person. This already happens with a strain, for example. These descriptions of an accident are defined in the insurance industry by insurance associations. In the case of damage to property, the term damage is used.
